I somewhat understand Spanish, which is similar. The gist that I get is a laundry list of complaints, basically, JWs talk about love, but where is the brotherly love when you're judged on hours and meetings, and if you miss a meeting then you'd better have a good excuse like illness. One talked about bothersome doctrinal issuses (I think )

i have been lurking in the shadows for a while now i just got my account from the fine administrators of this board.

i have really enjoyed reading the well thought out comments and critiques of the wts doctrine.. i have been around the wts since i was 5 i left for a while during high school got to live a little worldly/normal life then got sucked back in.

my wife has been raised in the truth and even though weve been inactive (for a while now), she still has thoughts about the earthly hope and seeing her grandparents some day.

well, it's been 11 months since the whole thing started and i am ecstatic that she will finally be coming home.. .

it's somewhere between 2 weeks to a month before she comes home.. .

I know a lot of Christians and the "majority" of them don't pretend anything...they believe it will happen too, just not the JW "twisted" verson.

I was counciled for putting in Pioneer hours and not officially "Pioneering"

i didn't want to hijack the thread about people having to "wait" until the society approves their pioneer status.. i recall once an elder was shocked that i had done the 60 hours a couple of months but not officially on the pioneer list for the months.

i told him that i didn't need the title, that the purpose was to do the work, not get a title.. i then heard a long lecture about how that was not encouraging to others, etc, etc, etc.. he got rather annoyed when i asked him what the purpose of the preaching work is.

of course he said to spread the good news.

you need to get a "WWJD" ring to wear(What Would Jesus Do). Then, when something like that comes up again, you could point at the ring, explain what the letters mean and walk away.

You'll eather get a hmmmmm.... OR response. (or you'll get invited to the back room for "illegal" jewelry)

How do intelligent people get involved in organized religion?

is it because of the fact that once you're involved in the religion, when it comes to god, the bible (or whatever religious text the religion is based on), thinking is no longer encouraged?

that thinking is somehow wrong, immoral?.

i know plenty of really smart people who could just have easily been astrophysicists.

If you let religion control you then you're bound to have a negative view. On the other hand, there are many organized religions that are a positive experience beyond the "faith and belief" aspects. Many community outreach programs turning peoples lives around, giving them a fresh start with a support group - something a lot of people don't have but need. All depends on what group you're connected with.

Working out of your home

some days i love it, others i am supposed to work and it's just so easy to get distracted with home stuff going on.. i will just get this laundry done, then this and that.

i want my home to be in order before i start working.

i got up, got dressed, walked out the door and left it all.

I feel your "pain".... been there, done that (sometimes I still do). A phrase I like from the motivational speaker Tony Robbins is "Schedule it" - meaning lay out your tasks, then schedule it ahead of time. Then somewhere through a few tasks, see where you are, what you might have to "reschedule" or re prioritize. It's made a difference with me. Even now, I've given myself 10 mins. to be on JWD then I'm off to another task.

(just a thought )
